hair diaries; vinny's relationship with his hair
Hi there, friends! Here at amika, it’s important that you know you will always have a friend in us. We're a collective of curious creatives, salon-bred stylists, chemists, and product enthusiasts who want to share our love of haircare with every one of you beautiful beings! In our case, being a friend means creating a platform where everyone feels 100% welcome and at ease to be themselves. In our most recent campaign, we feature friends of amika that inspire us, so we sat down with them to discuss a topic that’s near and dear to us: their relationship with their hair.
Everyone’s relationship with their hair is entirely unique and ever evolving. Hair is tied to how you feel about yourself, your confidence, and what you want to portray to the world. Maybe you’ve done a lot of things to try to change your hair, or you’re one of those people who has always let it be. It’s a judgement-free zone. We want these stories to demonstrate that no matter how you wear or style your hair, and no matter what you’ve done to it in the past, all hair is welcome here at amika.
q: what's your favorite thing about your hair?
love my hair for its natural texture and shaggy cut which makes me feel like I'm ready to get glammed up and hop on stage in the 70s!
q: how would you describe your relationship with your hair?
Tumultuous! Ever-changing! My hair and I have been through some good times and some really awkward ones! It's all a part of the process. But....we're really getting along now.
q: do you feel that your hair is part of your identity?
As an actor, hair is an aspect of the job that I can't get too attached to! Don't get me wrong, whenever I am able to, I love wearing my hair long. But I love constantly reinventing myself so my hairstyle doesn't stay constant for too long!
q: what is your usual hair routine?
I like to apply a curl cream and a gel on wet hair. I then let it air dry completely before shaking it out, scrunching, and reworking some curls. I used to be so afraid of causing my hair to frizz but now I feel my hair looks it's best when I've played with it a bit.
q: has your hair routine or style changed during quarantine/times of social distancing?
One of the things I'm thankful for that came from quarantine is how much simpler life has gotten for me. This includes my hair routine! Pre-covid I found myself micro-managing my hair a bit more. I also used heat to style since I never seemed to have the time to let it dry naturally.
