how to create a New Year's Eve look for socially distant celebrations
Well, friends...we’ve made it to the gates of 2021! Although we can't wait for this year of uncertainties and stress to be over, so we can pass into the threshold of opportunity that we hope next year will bring, it’s important to remember that taking COVID-19 precautions is as crucial as ever.
If you weren’t already aware, cases and infection rates are on the rise all over the US. It’s more imperative than ever to be a friend to EVERYONE by socially distancing, wearing a mask, and regularly washing your hands.
However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t ring in the new year with some sort of celebration. The amika team is trading in big parties and gatherings for intimate get togethers with immediate household members. Activities on the agenda include cooking a delicious meal, playing board games, making tasty cocktails, watching the ball drop, and FaceTiming at midnight with friends and loved ones. To make the occasion special and really feel like a normal celebration, dress the part! Get dressed in something snazzy, do your hair, and put some makeup on!
Since we’re all about hair here at amika, we’re going to focus on the hairstyle for your look. For inspiration, turn to our friend Leigh Dickson, who is going to show us her own version of a New Year’s Eve look.

how Leigh created the look
“For the curls, what I did was wrap the hair once around the barrel normally, then twist the hair and wrap it around a second time, then repeat. So, the hair was flat against the barrel, then twisted, then flat, then twisted. It is a bit tricky to explain, but hopefully by watching the video and reading this it will make sense! Love the undone retro feel I got by doing this technique!”
From all of your friends here at amika, have a happy New Year and we will see you in 2021!
