Since the disappointment that was the year 2020, people have stopped claiming that the new year is going to be the year. We're all just hoping for a nice, quiet, normal, okay 2022. We don't need any more shocking events, bombshells, and plot twists. The most excitement and scares I want to get are from the horror movies coming out in next year. And the lineup's already shaping up to be quite awesome.
IDK about you, but sometimes scary movies can help distract me from the terrifying thoughts and events that haunt me IRL. A solid hour and a half of focusing on trying to prepare and predict when the next jump scare is coming is a nice—albeit stressful, but also thrilling—break from reality. This year we're getting a really good roster, which includes a number of big film franchise revivals and sequels, a new dark turn for Marvel, a star-studded thriller headlined by Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, another much-anticipated Jordan Peele masterpiece, and so many more hair-raisingly, nail-bitingly good flicks that'll definitely keep you on your toes. There's no need to wait for Halloween. Just look at the list below, mark your calendars, set a movie date with your friend or S.O. for as early as January, and get ready for the best horror movies you can look forward to in 2022.
Horror is definitely not what Marvel usually serves up, but here we are. Reports are saying that the superhero movie is going to be the darkest film the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen so far. And, yes, it's going to be some spine-chilling scary movie elements.
Not many details have been revealed about it just yet, but prepare for more dizzying multiverse madness, and Wanda Maximoff's (Elizabeth Olsen) dark magic in action.
Premiere date: May 6, 2022
Jordan Peele is back with what is bound to be another mind-blowing horror film. And though few details are known about the actual plot of this movie, people are already excited after seeing the headlining cast members Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun.
Premiere date: July 22, 2022
This highly-anticipated sequel to the Halloween classic is going to bring back all three Sanderson Sisters (Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker) after 29 years. An aspiring witch named Becca accidentally summons them back on Halloween, and now they're seeking revenge. It's up to Becca and two other students from her high school to stop them.
Premiere date: Fall 2022
Halloween Ends marks, well, the end of this legendary horror movie series. Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, and Michael Myers face off one last time. And Strode will hopefully bring an end to the murderer's reign of evil. But, of course, nothing is for certain since the masked killer's been able to come back from the dead several times before.
Premiere date: October 14, 2022
