The former Bachelor (and, more uniquely, two-time Bachelorette runner-up) recently told People that when it comes to Clayton as the Bachelor, he just doesn't see it. Of course, to be fair, it could just be that he's been blinded by the shining, glittery light that LITERALLY EVERYONE in Michelle Young's final four exudes at all times.
"I've been kind of critical of the selection," he said. "It's nothing against Clayton, he seemed like a nice enough fellow, but just looking at Michelle's top four, each of the top four has better storylines, more charisma. They have out-shined Clayton in every possible way. So I don't really get the choice."
Even though the Bachelor Powers That Be didn't *officially* confirm that Clayton would be the next Bachelor until the end of November, his casting had been common knowledge among franchise fans since before Michelle Young's season even aired. Since we all went into Michelle's season knowing Clayton was the next lead, we watched him closely, waiting for him to wow us. And then, while we were waiting, he was eliminated, leaving viewers wondering if they had missed an episode and/or something about Clayton that screamed "NEXT BACHELOR" (they had not).
Based on what we've seen from Clayton so far, Nick is predicting a very snoozy (or worse, painfully inauthentic) season of television as we watch him make polite small talk on dates for a couple of months while we all continue to try to solve the Da Vinci Code level riddle of why he's the Bachelor.
"I think from what we saw with Clayton on Michelle's season, which is not much, it's that my fear for this season is that we're going to get a lot of platitudes and a lot of very high level 'nice.' It'll all sound nice, but none of it will sound real," Nick explained. "I hope Clayton proves us wrong and I'm very much rooting to watch this season and say to myself, which I have in the past, 'You know what, I didn't agree with this selection, but they got it right.' I'm rooting for that to happen, but as it stands right now, I don't get it."
Same. Such same.
